According to information, on April 24, the international scientific and practical forum “Topical Issues of Combating Income Laundering and the Financing of Terrorism” started at the Nizhny Novgorod Fair.
Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Gleb Nikitin spoke at the forum.
According to him, the regional government pays great attention to the development of cooperation with other countries, for example, offering the Nizhny Novgorod region as a venue for a number of BRICS events.
“There are indeed a lot of tasks. But by working harmoniously, on the principles of equality, partner support and taking into account each other’s interests, we are able to resolve the most pressing issues on the global and regional agenda,” said Gleb Nikitin.
As Yury Chikhanchin, director of Rosfinmonitoring, noted, it is necessary to develop a unified strategy to combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT).
“Despite the wide representation and geography of the forum participants, we are united by one goal – strengthening international cooperation to reduce common risks and threats in the field of security, primarily financial,” emphasized Yuri Chikhanchin.
In turn, Nikolai Zhuravlev, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, emphasized that one of the most effective methods for combating AML/CFT is legislative regulation, where there is a constant exchange of best regulatory practices between countries.
“And such work is already being carried out within several international platforms. In July this year, the BRICS Parliamentary Forum will be held in St. Petersburg. Our Forum of Parliamentarians of the EAG Member States is actively working,” said Nikolai Zhuravlev.
In addition, during the event, participants discussed mechanisms for reducing common risks, international cooperation in combating the financing of terrorism, and also shared experience in combating financial crimes.
It is noted that the forum was organized by Rosfinmonitoring jointly with the regional government, EAG, SRPFR, ITMCFM and UNN. N.I. Lobachevsky within the framework of the Russian chairmanship in BRICS.
The events were attended by representatives of more than 20 countries, including Belarus, Brazil, Egypt, India, Kyrgyzstan, China, Cuba, Madagascar, UAE, Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of the UN and CSTO.
