Elderly women have fallen into the trap of criminals operating under the scheme of “helping a relative who has been involved in an accident.” So, first, a 92-year-old resident of Karl Marx Street in Tambov received a call from an unknown person and said that her granddaughter had committed an accident and was facing criminal prosecution.
“Next, the grandmother was reassured that the matter could be settled by paying 100 thousand rubles. The money should be given to the young man who will come to her, and nothing should be said to anyone. Soon a guy appeared, to whom the frightened old woman gave 100 thousand rubles and began to wait for good news“, reports press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Tambov region .
A similar fraud scheme was applied to two more elderly women living in the regional village of Mordovo. 87-year-old pensioners gave 120 thousand rubles to the scammer courier. After waiting for several hours, the pensioners finally decided to call a relative. After calling their relatives, they went to the police because they realized that they had become victims of telephone scammers.
“Dear Tambov residents! Do not believe calls from strangers who introduce themselves as bank employees or law enforcement officers and inform you about the facts of an accident with your relatives, or about any loans issued in your name and offer to take out a counter loan and then transfer the money to safe accounts. Do not share your personal information with unknown persons“, – they once again reminded police .
It should be noted that a 26-year-old Tambov resident also became a victim of the criminals, who transferred more than 1 million rubles to the criminals, most of which he took on credit.
