The men from the sculpture in the center of Volgograd were dressed in women’s jackets: things got worse

In September 2023, the renovation of Sursky Square was completed in Volgograd, and at the same time they renamed it Builders Square and installed several sculptures in the theme. Strange things happened to some of them. For example, the Orthodox cross was immediately broken off in the miniature of the Alexander Nevsky Church.

Two months later, strange things were noticed in the artistic composition of the sculpture by Sergei Shcherbakov in memory of the specialists who restored post-war Stalingrad and then built Volgograd. The project manager and the builder were wearing women’s jackets. In any case, on the sculpture the buttons were placed on the left, which is considered to be “female”. Men’s jackets have buttons on the right side.

After the discovery was made, they began to wonder whether the sculptor would correct the mistake, and someone tried to study the history of the issue: maybe this was the norm before?

Six months later, it turned out that an unfortunate mistake had occurred with the buttons and they decided to move them.

Corrected version

“A couple of days ago, workers showed up at the sculpture, knocking down the buttons on one side and fixing them on the other. Previously, only a few knew the story about women’s jackets and no one paid attention. Now the holes from the sawed-off buttons have been roughly covered up, and this is immediately noticeable. So the mistakes were corrected that they only made things worse,” says a resident of Krasnoznamenskaya Street.
