In Irkutsk, preparations are underway to celebrate the 79th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The city plans to hold more than 200 events in honor of the holiday. The bulk of them will start on May 7, the press service of the Irkutsk administration reported. For the safety of citizens, law enforcement officers will work during the events.

A funeral ceremony is planned for May 7 at the Amur Cemetery. It starts at 11:00. On the same day at 11:30 a solemn event will be held at the monument to Marshal of the Soviet Union Georgy Zhukov. Wreaths and flowers will be laid at the memorial and monument.

On May 9 at 11:00 a festive procession of units of the Russian Ministry of Defense and security forces of the Irkutsk garrison will begin on Count Speransky Square in front of the regional government building. Demonstrations and demonstrations of military equipment are planned.

From 13:00 to 18:00 on the same day, everyone is invited to a concert at the monument to Alexander the Third. A platform dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Soviet and Russian poet Bulat Okudzhava will be organized at 9 Gagarina Boulevard. Guests will be able to take part in the Open Microphone event: perform patriotic songs or read poems on military topics, including works by Bulat Shalvovich. From 12:00 to 16:00, a festive program is organized for Irkutsk residents and guests of the city in the Kirov park.

The main concert “Victory Day” will take place on Count Speransky Square from 14:30 to 21:45. The program will be opened by the Governor’s Symphony Orchestra. Creative groups from the city will perform on stage with vocal and choreographic performances. At 22:00 The holiday will end with fireworks on the Lower Embankment.

Events in honor of Victory Day will take place in all districts of the city. Among them are thematic exhibitions, sports competitions, lessons of courage and classroom hours in educational institutions, patriotic events and assistance to veterans, as well as families of participants in a special military operation.
