The Leninsky District Court of Yekaterinburg ordered a ban on certain actions by the owner of the “Beautiful Russia” channel, Evgeny Anisimov, who was detained on a criminal case after a search on April 23. “It’s My City” writes about this.
The journalist is charged with articles on libel (Article 128.1 of the Criminal Code) and dissemination of information constituting a family secret (Part 1 of Article 137 of the Criminal Code); the investigation asked to take him into custody. The court banned Anisimov from using the Internet and communicating with witnesses. The man does not admit guilt and considers the persecution related to his journalistic activities.
The reason for initiating criminal cases was two YouTube videos about businessman and ex-member of the Public Chamber Bohdan Novorok. On April 23, when the channel’s editorial office was searched, journalists planned to hold a press conference and present the results of the Yekaterinburg Sprut investigation into Novorok’s activities. According to Beautiful Russia, the businessman is involved in the appropriation of land in Yekaterinburg, and channel participants were going to present evidence at the conference.
After the search, Anisimov was detained, first on charges of libel. Later it became known that he was also charged under the article of disclosing family secrets. The journalist’s lawyer, Natalya Volkova, said that force was used against her client: he had abrasions and bruises on his body. “My leg was knocked off, I have hematomas, abrasions and bruises all over my body: on my face, arms and legs,” Anisimov himself told the It’s My City journalist before the meeting.
