Analysts from the Scientific Center for Road Safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia named the regions of Russia where in 2023 there was an increase in certain types of accidents and their victims. The Samara region was noted in several categories at once.

First of all, the region is noted among the territories that were unable to achieve the target values ​​of the federal project “Road Safety”, stipulated by agreements with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. (Like a year earlier, as already mentioned reported “Review”.

In 2023, the number of deaths per 10 thousand vehicles (vehicles) – the so-called. “transport risk” was 2.81, although it should not have exceeded 2.26. The number of deaths per 100 thousand population – the so-called. “social risk” – amounted to 10.91 with a target indicator of 8.85. It is worth noting that the level in Russia has not only been achieved, but is also lower than in the Samara region. Transport risk was 2.36 (predicted – no more than 2.4), social – 9.91 (predicted – no more than 9.94).

Among the most tragic trends is the worsening situation with the death of children on the roads. Last year, there were 399 road accidents involving minors (4.2% more than the year before), in which 14 children died (+27.3%) and 421 people were injured (+0.2%).

There was a 20.4% increase in bus accidents. A total of 165 such road accidents were registered in the Samara region. 17 people died in them (+30.8%), 257 (+8%) were injured.

The number of accidents involving freight transport increased to 418. This is 10.6% more than in 2022. In these accidents, 137 people died (+20.2%), 551 were injured (+15%).

The number of road accidents caused by foreign drivers increased by more than a third. In 131 such road accidents last year, 34 people died (+54.5%), 214 people were injured (+81.4%).

The Samara region was also included in the top ten regions with the highest car sharing transport accident rates. In 15 such accidents, 1 person was killed and 22 were injured. Compared to the previous year, the number of accidents increased by 7.1%, and the number of people injured in them increased by 22.2%.

Analysts of the Ministry of Internal Affairs also note an increase in accident rates for the second year on the P-229 highway “Samara-Pugachev-Engels-Volgograd”. In 2023, 168 accidents (+21.7%) occurred on this road, in which 68 people died (+78.9%) and 248 people were injured (+17%).
