Children wearing animal masks and tails appeared in Volgograd parks. We figured out what was happening and tell you what a quadrobic is and how it differs from therianthropes.
A young mother was walking with her daughter in the Eighth March square in the city center when she felt someone’s gaze on her. Looking back, she saw a girl in a cat mask sitting motionless on the playground in a strange uncomfortable position, as if frozen before jumping.
“Based on the height and figure, it was not entirely clear who was in front of me – an adult or a child,” says the Volgograd resident. — Her emotions were not visible under the mask: was she neutral or aggressive? And in general, one could tell by the face whether a person is normal or not. And the mask itself is very strange, obviously homemade. In short, I tensed up and, just in case, we moved to the other end of the site. The girl continued to sit motionless and some of the kids were really scared, the little girl pointed at her and almost cried: “Mom, mom, what is this?” Some of the children didn’t care. In short, a “so-so” spectacle. I watched this character for some time, of course, I was wondering what was hiding under the mask? Maybe there’s something wrong with her face? Soon enough, another girl approached her, her mask raised on her head. From their similar figures and hairstyles, I realized that they were sisters. It just got more interesting. Maybe there really is something wrong with the girl, and her sister supports her by also wearing a mask? For a very, very long time they staggered back and forth, but in the end the cat girl lifted her mask for a while. There was a very pretty face there.
It turned out that these were representatives of a new sport-subculture that is gaining popularity among teenagers – quads. The idea is to move a person on four limbs, imitating walking, running, jumping and other graceful movements of animals. Often for such activities, children wear animalistic masks and costumes in order to visually get closer to the image of the animal being depicted. Quadrabics as a sport was created in 2019 in the USA. However, some believe that its founder is the Japanese Kenichi Ito, who was teased as a monkey as a child. But the activity has only now aroused widespread interest among young people.
The director of the Safe Internet League, Ekaterina Mizulina, even drew attention to the movement.
— Many people wrote to me that posts appeared on social networks calling for the quadruple fighters to be beaten. This is bad. That’s why I paid attention. I’m not proposing to ban anything, I just became interested,” she wrote on her Telegram channel.
Some people are sure that quad training is an excellent game sport. But those who have witnessed quadruple gatherings in parks note that it bears little resemblance to acrobat training. Mostly children just run around the streets on all fours, imitating animals, meowing and even biting.
– And what seems to be bad? – says the young mother. — If this is something like aerobics, then what kind of sport is better for children than sitting at home at the computer? But today I became convinced that most of this is all just posturing. As usual, we were walking in the park today on March 8, my daughter ran deep into the park, where there are a lot of trees, and we became unwitting witnesses to the stop of the so-called “quad bikes.” There were about eight girls there, aged 13-16 years. They threw their bags and backpacks under the trees, and they themselves lay and tumbled on the grass. And they really looked like animals, but not in the best sense… The girls swore like longshoremen and burped very loudly. I don’t understand what’s funny, maybe this is also an element of social culture? However, not everyone was fragile, I remember one girl, from afar she looked like an adult aunt with a silver fox tail dangling from behind. Sort of like that. Of the entire group, only one could perform any semblance of acrobatics: she stood on her hands for a few seconds and jumped on all fours.
Not all teenagers in animal masks and tails are quadrobers – this is more related to sports. But there are those who call themselves therians. Representatives of the therianthrope subculture identify themselves with certain animals, and the spiritual aspiration to the animal side of their own essence is reflected in the zoomorphic features and attributes that therianthropes bring into their everyday appearance. There is also a rare symptom of a mental disorder called therianthropy, in which a person believes that he can turn into, or has already turned into, an animal.
