Turkish Airlines stopped selling tickets from Russia to Mexico – April 24, 2024

Turkish Airlines has suspended the sale of tickets from Russia to Mexico. There was no official notification, but the airline’s website says so.

The information was checked on Wednesday, April 24, by the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) and confirmed that it is impossible to buy tickets from Russia to Mexico – the website does not allow this.

“It was not possible to find a single ticket for flights to Mexico City and Cancun from Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kazan, we tried all sorts of dates – without success,” the ATOR message says.

The Fontanka correspondent was also unable to buy a ticket from St. Petersburg to Mexico City for either May or July – all tickets were allegedly sold out.

However, tickets to Mexico from Istanbul for the same date are still available. ATOR clarified that you can purchase tickets through Istanbul for flights to other Latin American countries.

Earlier it became known that some Russians transiting through Istanbul to Latin American countries are not allowed on Turkish Airlines flights departing from Turkey. Fontanka told how a St. Petersburg resident and several other passengers were turned away right at the gate and were denied boarding. Russian diplomats tried to obtain clarification from the Turkish side, but did not receive a “clear response”.

The day before, Turkish Airlines responded to the scandal by publishing a memo in Russian about transit through Istanbul to Latin America. The Kremlin said that the problem is on the part of the Turkish company and the Russian diplomatic department is actively working to solve it.
