The regional operator for the management of municipal solid waste (MSW) MUP of the city of Novosibirsk “Spetsavtokhozyaistvo” is switching to an enhanced operating mode. As experts in the MSW management industry said, May is the month with the highest level of waste generation. During these May holidays, 300 garbage trucks will operate, the company reported.
“We have two periods when both equipment and people work to the limit – these are the New Year holidays and the May holidays. If the New Year holidays have peak loads for several days, as a rule, this is December 30-31 and January 6-7, then May is characterized by an increased load throughout the entire month: city cleanups are carried out en masse, volunteers begin cleaning recreational areas, country houses come to life society. Last year, the increase in waste in May was 13% compared to April. That is, an additional 121 thousand cubic meters of waste were collected and transported,” explained Head of the Department for Organization and Control of MSW Removal Olga Lyubenko.
Typically, points of tension during this period become container sites of houses located in close proximity to the exit from dacha communities and the private sector – Pervomaisky, Dzerzhinsky and Kalininsky districts. At the beginning of May, spontaneous piles of waste may form here, which arise during daily removal. The reason is the lack of contracts for MSW management services from some dacha societies. When summer residents return to the city, they “throw” their garbage at the first container site that comes their way.
Knowing about this seasonal problem, specialists prepare the work of the enterprise in advance. A duty schedule for specialists for the May holidays has been drawn up, scheduled preventive maintenance of special equipment is being carried out, and the load is being redistributed along routes.
Taking into account the change in the volume and morphology of waste, as well as the increase in the flow of special transport, preparations are also underway at the landfills – shifts are increased, reserve equipment is withdrawn, additional maps are laid out (areas of landfills where waste is buried).
On May holidays, dispatch service operators remain on call from 8.00 to 20.00. In case of early overflow of containers for accumulation of MSW, a request for waste removal can be left by calling the dispatch service telephone number of MUP “SAKH” – (383) 363-04-22.
