The situation turned out to be unusual – the man was detained for being drunk, but lost his license on the way

The driver lost his driver’s license 14 years ago due to a mistake by the traffic police. Recently, the Court of Cassation made a decision that restored his hope for the return of the certificate, rg.ru reports.

In 2010, a man was stopped for alleged drunk driving in a region where he did not live. The license was taken and sent to the place of residence, but it was lost along the way. Due to a misunderstanding and negligence at the traffic police, the driver was unable to immediately return the document.

But the situation changed after 2012, and he learned that the period of deprivation of rights begins to count only after their voluntary surrender to the traffic police department. Thus, when he finally applied for reinstatement of his rights, they explained to him that the period had not yet begun, since they had not been handed over.

After much back-and-forth in the courts, the court of cassation recognized that the period of deprivation had already expired, and the case was sent for consideration to the court of appeal. Now the man is waiting for a new driver’s license to be issued so he can finally get back behind the wheel.
