On April 24, Russia celebrates the day of memory of the poet Vasily Zhukovsky. He was born in the Tula province and was the illegitimate son of the master Afanasy Ivanovich Bunin and the captured Turkish woman Salha.

Vasily Andreevich received the surname from the poor nobleman Andrei Ivanovich Zhukovsky, who lived on the same estate.

As Brands of Russia writes, Vasily Andreevich received his education in Tula, first at a private boarding school, then at the Tula Public School. At that time he lived in the house of his sister Varvara Yushkova. Musical evenings were often held in her house, poetry and works by Karamzin were read, theater and painting were discussed. This could not have played a role in his development.
