Saint Petersburg. In 2024-2025, according to the construction committee, 79 secondary schools will be opened in St. Petersburg for more than 66 thousand students.

Every sixth of these schools in the Northern capital is built by the general contracting company Sotex, one of the key activities of which is the development of design solutions for social facilities.
According to Sotex CEO Sergei Zolin, currently a school is not only a building, but a philosophy on which both the educational process and infrastructure requirements depend. Not only the investor, but also the education departments of district administrations take part in the development of projects implemented by the company.
“Everything is discussed: from the equipment necessary in the educational process, zoning of school spaces to color schemes and architectural design of interiors,” the expert explained.
Sergei Zolin said that in recent years the school has undergone a transformation from the point of view of the educational process. In connection with the advent of modern methods and forms of training, new requests have appeared. The main trend has been the transition from the functionality and brevity of the building to more complex engineering and architectural solutions. The presence of a swimming pool and two gyms at the school no longer surprises anyone.
The CEO of Sotex noted that due to changes in educational programs, now, in addition to compulsory classrooms, schools are now designing media centers for events, co-working spaces, recording studios, television studios, theater and choreography classes. Particular attention is paid to requests for the creation of technological clusters with highly specialized training for children already on the basis of schools.
Sergei Zolin emphasized that the school today is a technically complex facility, equipped with a complex of modern high-tech equipment. What the school of the future will be like depends on many factors, including educational programs, teaching staff and technical regulations that are followed during construction
“But the most important thing is that we need to build schools so that our children want to study in them,” the expert concluded.
