On April 24, 2024, an exhibition dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences and telling about its history opened in the building of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. The opening was attended by the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Gennady Yakovlevich Krasnikov, as well as representatives of the Russian Academy of Sciences and members of the Federation Council.

“This year is very important both for the Academy of Sciences and for the country. This is an international holiday: by decision of the UNESCO General Assembly, the anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences was included in the list of memorable dates. History is our roots, our strength. Here, at the exhibition, it is told how the foundation of the Academy of Sciences was laid by Peter I. The traditions that were laid then remain the foundation of the Academy of Sciences today,” said RAS President G.Ya. in his introductory speech at the opening of the exhibition. Krasnikov.

Guests of the exhibition had the opportunity to learn about the main milestones of the 300-year history of the academy. In a succinct and concise form, the exhibition’s creators outlined the main scientific achievements associated with the Academy of Sciences, changes in its structure and how it was influenced by the historical context.

“Since its creation, the Academy of Sciences has never betrayed its traditions. The nuclear shield, discoveries in space, the first vaccine against coronavirus, and all this is the merit of the Russian Academy of Sciences. All these years, all these centuries, the Academy remembers its teachers. Today’s exhibition is a clear confirmation of this,” said Liliya Salavatovna Gumerova, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Science, Education and Culture.

At the exhibition, special attention was paid not only to the past, but also to the present of the academy. In particular, such achievements of Russian scientists as the creation of dual-core microprocessors “Elbrus-2SM”, the launch of the “Spektr-RG” observatory, the creation of the “Sputnik V” vaccine, the opening of the Baikal neutrino telescope and others.

“Of course, 300 years of the Academy of Sciences is 300 years of our great national history, with which the Academy of Sciences is inextricably linked and which the Academy of Sciences directly created. If there had not been great domestic science, as it has been for all these three centuries, then Russia would not have been great, there is no doubt about that. Honor and praise to those who keep the memory of previous generations of domestic scientists, their achievements, and sincere words of gratitude to those who continue to move our science forward,” said Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Konstantin Iosifovich Kosachev.
