On April 23, in the church in honor of the icon of the Mother of God “Joy of All Who Sorrow,” located on the territory of the Nizhny Novgorod deanery of the Nizhny Novgorod diocese, another rehearsal of congratulations to children was held as part of the charity event “Easter Days of Mercy.” This action is carried out by the volunteer movement “Mercy”, operating under the deanery.

Families with children in their care are waiting for volunteers to visit with congratulations, including via video link. Traditional annual Easter greetings to children have been carried out by volunteers since 2007. Previously, data was collected on the desired gifts for the children in their care. There are families that the volunteers of the Mercy movement have been caring for for many years and know their needs, among them there are large families, families raising disabled children, families in difficult life situations. In total there are more than 100 families.

Costumed congratulations to children at home with games and handicrafts will be organized by volunteers from May 5 to May 12.

“This year, in the script, we tried to highlight the Christian parallels of Victory Day and Easter. It is symbolic that in 2024 the celebration of Easter (May 5) practically coincides with the day of remembrance of the Holy Great Martyr George the Victorious (May 6, new style) and Victory Day (May 9). The holy warrior was glorified by the Church as “a liberator of captives and a protector of the poor, a physician of the infirm, a champion of kings.” Marshal Georgy Zhukov is considered to be one of the people personifying Victory. It was he who accepted the act of unconditional surrender of Germany on May 8, 1945, and then the Victory Parade on Red Square on June 24, 1945,” shared Alexander Shlyapin, coordinator of the Mercy volunteer movement.

The Nizhny Novgorod deanery invites volunteers to join in the congratulations. Volunteers will be given training: they must take part in rehearsals (at least one).

Rehearsal schedule:

April 28 (Sunday) at 13:00;

May 2 (Thursday) at 19:00;

May 4 (Saturday) at 13:00.

Rehearsals are held in the temple “Joy of All Who Sorrow” (city of Nizhny Novgorod, Nesterova Street, building 2 (chapel next to the temple)). In addition, car volunteers are invited to participate in the event. Those who wish can also bring gifts for children (sweets, except Easter cakes, and new toys) and leave them in the temple or in the chapel next to the temple.
