The authorities of Karelia have developed a project to create a road tunnel in Petrozavodsk, the head of the republic, Artur Parfenchikov, said in his report to parliamentarians of the region.

“A project has been developed for the reconstruction of a section of Dostoevsky Street between Zaitsev and Borovaya streets with the construction of a tunnel under the railway tracks along Khalturin Street. For Petrozavodsk, the project is extremely important, since a new transport and logistics route will be created, which will relieve congestion in the city center and ensure transport connectivity of four districts,” said Artur Parfenchikov.

In general, over the past five years, more than 1.1 thousand km of regional roads have been updated in Karelia, which is 24 times more than in the previous similar period, Parfenchikov added. In 2024, it is planned to repair more than 200 km of regional roads.
