Schoolchildren took up the post at the Eternal Flame in Irkutsk – Irkutsk Today

For the first time in the history of the regional Post No. 1, schoolchildren from various cities and districts of the Irkutsk region received the right to carry out the Honor Watch on the eve of Victory Day on May 9, the regional government reported.

The regional Minister of Education, Maxim Parfenov, announced that 60 young sentries from 10 municipalities are represented in a new format at the “Eternal Flame of Glory” memorial complex: Bratsk, Svirsk, Usolye-Sibirsky, Alarsky, Bokhansky, Irkutsk, Nukutsky, Osinsky, Shelekhovsky and Ekhirit-Bulagatsky districts.

Municipal teams will perform their duty for three weeks, and on May 7 they will hand over the Memory Watch to the consolidated Guard of Honor of the best schoolchildren of Irkutsk.

“In many municipalities of the Angara region there is already a tradition of participation of the best schoolchildren and students in the Memory Watch at memorable places and memorials dedicated to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, but the history of Post No. 1 in Irkutsk is unique,” ​​emphasized Maxim Parfenov.

Post No. 1 in Irkutsk was opened on May 10, 1975 in honor of the 30th anniversary of the Victory and has been operating continuously for more than 45 years.

First competition Памяти павших - достойны! was held from February to April 2023 on the initiative of the Governor of the Irkutsk region Igor Kobzev. About 200 students in grades 8-11 from 20 municipalities took part in the competition.

Before the start of the Memory Watch, young sentries undergo special training, which includes training in drill skills, studying the history and traditions of Post No. 1, as well as training on changing the guard and other aspects of honorable service.
