On April 22, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on awarding Russian state awards to participants in the construction of the BAM. Seven representatives of Buryatia were also awarded for their great contribution to reconstruction, development and in connection with the 50th anniversary of the start of construction of the Baikal-Amur Railway.

Order of Friendship:

Veselov Alexey Petrovich – electric locomotive driver of the operational locomotive depot Severobaikalsk of the East Siberian Traction Directorate of the Traction Directorate – a branch of OJSC Russian Railways;

Sobolev Alexander Mikhailovich – head of the Severobaikalsk traction substation of the Severobaikalsk power supply distance of the East Siberian Energy Supply Directorate of Transenergo, a branch of OJSC Russian Railways;

Medal of the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland” II degree:

Vakhmyanin Igor Leonidovich – foreman (released) for the current maintenance and repair of the track and artificial structures of the Novouoyanskaya distance of the track of the East Siberian Directorate of Infrastructure of the Central Directorate of Infrastructure – a branch of JSC Russian Railways;

Medal “For the Development of Railways”:

Zdroka Sergey Alekseevich – Deputy Head of the Department of the East Siberian Directorate for Capital Construction of the Directorate for the Construction of Communication Networks – a branch of OJSC Russian Railways;

Medal “For the Development of Siberia and the Far East”:

Yuri Valentinovich Barabanshchikov – electric locomotive driver of the operational locomotive depot Severobaikalsk of the East Siberian Traction Directorate of the Traction Directorate – a branch of OJSC Russian Railways;

Burachenko Vladimir Nikolaevich – foreman (released) of the railway transport enterprises of track machine station No. 303 of the East Siberian Directorate for track repair of the Central Directorate for track repair – a branch of JSC Russian Railways;

Kuznetsov Sergey Ivanovich – senior inspector and repairman of cars at the Severobaikalsk car maintenance point of the Severobaikalsk operational car depot of the East Siberian Infrastructure Directorate of the Central Infrastructure Directorate – a branch of Russian Railways OJSC.

Let us recall that full-scale construction of the Baikal-Amur Railway started in April 1974. More than two million people took part in it. The total length of the highway is 4,300 kilometers; it crosses three time zones and six regions of Russia: Irkutsk, Chita and Amur regions, Buryatia, Yakutia, and Khabarovsk Territory. The BAM “passes” 11 full-flowing rivers, 7 mountain ranges, the highway includes 2230 bridges, nine tunnels, 66 stations, 144 sidings, 11 overpasses.
