Doctors from Iran adopt the experience of Don specialists

Rostov region, April 24, 2024. DON24.RU. The memory of the victims of the Armenian genocide in the Ottoman Empire was honored today in the Rostov region. According to the website of the regional government, the date of the beginning of the genocide is considered to be the day when the arrests of representatives of the Armenian intelligentsia began in Constantinople (now Istanbul). This happened on April 24, 1915. At that time, Armenians made up 20% of the city’s population. More than 1.5 million people were killed.

“One hundred years later, in 2015, the Armenian Apostolic Church canonized the victims of the Armenian genocide; April 24 is the day of remembrance of the holy martyrs of the Armenian genocide. In the Don capital, the memory of the victims of the genocide was honored by members of the Nakhichevan-on-Don Armenian community, leaders of public organizations and national-cultural autonomies of the city and region,” writes the source.

Participants of the commemorative events visited the St. Harutyun Church and laid flowers at the monument “No to Genocide!”, which is located in the park named after. Frunze.

Deputy Minister of Regional Policy and Mass Communications of Don Maxim Danilenko emphasized that preserving historical memory is one of the ways to counter all forms of discrimination on religious, racial and ethnic grounds.
