The day before, in Tver, at the military memorial “Smolensk Fraternal Burial”, an event was held in honor of the start of the action, in which representatives of public associations, government bodies, the “First Movement”, schoolchildren, students, youth members, cadets of the VA East Kazakhstan region took part. “There is no need to say how important this action is. Today, a large number of young people, schoolchildren, cadets, academy students, military personnel, and city residents are present at the opening. And for me, the St. George’s ribbon is a symbol of honor, valor and glory of our army, which defended the honor and dignity of our Russia on the battlefields,” emphasized the Chairman of the Tver City Public Organization of Veterans (Pensioners) of War, Labor, Armed Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies, Honorary Citizen city of Tver, Major General of Aviation Genrikh Levkovich.
In the Tver region, the action will last until May 9 and will cover all municipalities. “Victory Volunteers”, activists of youth associations, students and schoolchildren will distribute St. George’s ribbons at patriotic rallies, ceremonial processions and simply on city streets, telling fellow countrymen about the history of this symbol and the rules for wearing it.
“All residents of the region can join the action to show respect to our veterans. We remember their feat,” shared Anna Filimonova, head of the Tver branch of “Volunteers of Victory.”
During the days of the action, millions of people attach the St. George Ribbon to their clothes, publicly demonstrating their respect for the soldiers who fought for the Fatherland and national pride for the Great Victory.
In total, about 1,500 volunteers in the region will distribute more than 70 thousand St. George ribbons, notes the press service of the regional government.
