The governor of the Astrakhan region met with the head of Rosmorrechflot

Governor of the Astrakhan region Igor Babushkin and head of the Federal Agency for Sea and River Fleet Andrei Tarasenko held a working meeting in Moscow. The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Energy of the region Ilya Volynsky.

The head of Rosmorrechflot supported the proposal of the governor of the Astrakhan region, which he voiced at a meeting of the commission of the State Council of the Russian Federation, to include the reconstruction of the shipping canal in the new national project “Transport”. The Russian government is actively working on this project.

“Previously, as part of the working group for the Great Volga Road program, we collected proposals from the regions and sent them to the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation. We proposed to include the reconstruction of the Volga-Caspian sea shipping canal in the list of events“, said Igor Babushkin. – “This is very important for our region and for the country as a whole. The main artery of the North-South transport corridor runs here. This will significantly increase cargo flows through the Astrakhan region and give an additional impetus to the development of the shipbuilding industry”

Currently, the canal allows the passage of ships with a draft of 4.5 meters, while preserving certain sections where the movement of ships is carried out in one direction.

The meeting participants also discussed the project for the construction of a marine terminal and a passenger checkpoint in the seaport of Astrakhan.

An important factor in the successful development of the maritime and river industry is personnel training. The governor of the Astrakhan region thanked Andrei Tarasenko for his participation in the development of the material and technical base and equipment of the Caspian Institute of Sea and River Transport named after Admiral General F. M. Apraksin.
