A 53-year-old mechanic from the Pavlovsky district lost more than 1 million rubles due to telephone scammers. The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported this on Wednesday, April 24, 2024.

It turned out that the man received a call from an unknown person who introduced himself as a law enforcement officer. He said that someone was allegedly trying to get loans for the mechanic. The man was told to wait for a call from a bank employee who would help him. Then another scammer called back and offered to transfer funds to a “safe account.” The Voronezh resident applied for a loan of 1.5 million rubles and sent the money using the specified details.

“A couple of days after the money was transferred, the victim realized the deception and contacted law enforcement agencies,” explained the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Voronezh Region.
