A resident of the Rostov region was detained on charges of vandalism for damaging portraits of participants in the Great Patriotic War. This was reported by the press service of the investigative department of the RF Investigative Committee for the Rostov region.

As the department’s press service explained, in the Neklinovsky district, a 19-year-old man damaged two portraits, for which he was charged.

“According to the investigation, on April 13, 2024, the accused, while on the Alley of Heroes in the village of Pokrovskoye, acting deliberately, damaged two portraits of participants in the Great Patriotic War. Currently, in the criminal case, the investigator is carrying out the necessary investigative actions aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the crime committed,” the message says.

Also, the message clarifies that the young man is accused of committing a crime under paragraph “b” of Part 2 of Art. 243.4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (damage to memorial objects located on the territory of the Russian Federation that perpetuate the memory of those who died defending the Fatherland during the Great Patriotic War). Such a crime is punishable by a fine in the amount of two to five million rubles, or forced labor for up to five years, or imprisonment for the same period.

The accused fully admitted his guilt during interrogation.
