Two new pinnipeds were brought to the territory of the treatment facilities of the St. Petersburg Vodokanal – a gray seal pup from the Lomonosov district of the Leningrad region and a Ladoga seal from the village of Repino (Resort district of St. Petersburg). The organization spoke about how the babies were found on April 24.

As noted in the message, the exhausted baby seal made it ashore to escape the storm. He got very scared and hid in the forest. Later, people found the pinniped and called the Friends of the Baltic Seal Foundation.

Today, experts determined that the baby is 1.5 months old and has already moulted. The baby seal is very exhausted and needs help.

In addition, the day before a Ladoga seal arrived in Repino. She got out of the Neva to the pier of one of the enterprises to warm up and rest.

“Sensitive workers paid attention to her and also called the Foundation. And for good reason: the baby weighs half the normal amount – only 6.5 kilograms and is very emaciated,” the organization shared.

Specialists are now engaged in the rehabilitation of pinnipeds. In total, there are 11 babies under their care: five Ladoga ringed seals, one Baltic seal and five gray seals.

Earlier, Vodokanal of St. Petersburg warned that in the coastal areas of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region there is a high probability of meeting baby seals in need of help.
