IT and engineering faculties of universities are becoming the most popular.
The popular platform SuperJob shared the results of a study conducted in Volgograd – as part of the survey, parents of graduates shared where their children planned to go to study this year.
Journalists from Gorodskie Vesti found out that, according to a survey, eleventh-graders this year will enroll in IT and engineering faculties of universities; among ninth-graders going to college, information technology is also a priority, with pedagogy in second place.
The majority – almost 59 percent of surveyed parents of 9th grade graduates who do not plan to study in 10th grade – say their child is ready to enter a secondary educational institution. Among parents of 11th grade graduates, the share of those whose child will enter a higher education institution was 66 percent.
Among university applicants, judging by the responses of parents, the most popular field in 2024 is information technology. Young Volgograd residents want to become programmers or IT specialists. According to survey results, this number is 28 percent. Engineering specialties are in second place – 16 percent. And in third place are specialties in the field of fundamental or applied science, 10 percent of them. The children of 9 percent of respondents are preparing to become teachers. 8 percent of parents said their graduating children want to be doctors.
Those entering secondary education most often choose IT specialties. This was reported by 26 percent of parents surveyed. The second most popular field this year is the pedagogical field, mentioned by 16 percent of survey participants. 15 percent of parents said their children plan to become doctors. 9 percent of parents said that their children would study to become workers and craftsmen in construction or manufacturing, and 7 percent – to become designers.
