The Novosibirsk region was in third place among all regions of the Siberian Federal District in terms of grain export potential. The Altai Territory topped the list, and the Tomsk Region was recognized as an outsider, reports the press service of the Altai branch of the FSBI Center for Grain Quality Assessment.

In mid-April, Novosibirsk hosted XXVII Grain round table “Everything is only about grain.” More than 200 heads of agricultural enterprises, top managers and representatives of government and regulatory bodies took part in the agricultural forum.

The deputy director of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Center for Grain Quality Assessment” acted as an expert, Director of the Altai branch Maria Shostak. She told the round table participants about the upcoming state monitoring of wheat for the 2024 harvest this year, the export potential of the regions of Siberia, their current achievements and the most popular locally produced grain products abroad. Based on the phytosanitary protocols issued by the subordinate institutions of Rosselkhoznadzor, a rating of regions producing grain and grain products was compiled in order of decreasing volumes of shipments as of the beginning of April 2024 (the statistics do not take into account feed cargo, vegetable oils and seeds sent from the regions abroad).

The Altai Territory took first place with a result of 398 thousand tons. The region has become the leader in grain exports from Siberia and based on the results of the entire last year – more than 1.9 million tons with an increase of 14% compared to 2022. In the same year, it retains its position not only in the absolute volume of shipments abroad, but also in the product range (56 items), geography of supplies (33 countries) and the number of supplier enterprises.

The second position was taken by the Omsk region, which shipped more than 261 thousand tons of grain by the beginning of the second ten days of April. The region supplied grain and grain products to 10 countries, while expanding the geography of sales, and also increased the number of types of products sold by 5 positions – from 21 in 2023 to 26 this year.

The Novosibirsk region is located on the third line of the ranking, dropping one position relative to the results of 2023. By the beginning of April, the region shipped 239.6 thousand tons of grain, and over the past year the volume of deliveries exceeded 1.1 million tons. The region supplies 50 export products to 12 countries, and the main buyer is China (122.7 thousand tons, +44%). Next come Kazakhstan (72.5 thousand tons) and Kyrgyzstan (24.6 thousand tons). At the same time, Mongolia is significantly increasing purchases of Novosibirsk grain – 15.5 thousand tons, which is 20 times more than in the 1st quarter of 2023. The main export crop of the region is wheat (113 thousand tons), and positive dynamics of shipments are shown by barley (46.9 thousand tons, +84%), peas (35.8 thousand tons, +8%), buckwheat (7. 3 thousand tons, an increase of 2 times) and oats (3.5 thousand tons, + 16%).

Places from fourth to eighth were taken by the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Kuzbass, Irkutsk Region, Khakassia and Tomsk Region.

We previously reported that Altai grain exports to China increased by more than 60% in the first quarter.
