In the Chelyabinsk region, 69 people suffered at the hands of a swindler who sold them household and office equipment at a discount through an online store. But after payment, buyers did not receive either goods or a refund. And there was no contact at all with the seller himself. A Chelyabinsk resident was sentenced to 5 years in prison for fraud. This was reported to Vecherka by the press service of the regional prosecutor’s office.

“The Kurchatovsky District Court found a local resident guilty under parts 1-4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation,” the department clarified.

The Chelyabinsk resident worked from 2019 to 2021. He lured customers with prices below market prices: he provided a discount using accumulated bonuses in a household appliance store from previous purchases. Citizens selected a product on the online store’s website and transferred money to it. Instead of buying equipment, the man spent the funds received on his needs. In total, 69 Chelyabinsk residents suffered damage amounting to more than 11 million rubles.

And recently, in the Chelyabinsk region, about 100 people were injured by the actions of the Optomart online store. Residents of the region paid for purchases through the website, but they never received them. The police and Rospotrebnadzor got involved in the case.
