25th of April. They intend to improve the quality of private transportation by public transport in Irkutsk through competition. The mayor of the city, Ruslan Bolotov, announced this. Today, according to him, some residents of the regional center are not satisfied with the quality of services provided in this area, writes IrkutskMedia news agency.

“Currently, more than 1 thousand units of public transport operate in Irkutsk, most of which are owned by private owners. City residents are dissatisfied with the quality of services provided in this area. Some carriers violate the rules, are rude and do not monitor cleanliness. The condition of the rolling stock of some routes, for example, No. 80, such carriers should not exist,” the city mayor noted.

He emphasized that private carriers will be forced to improve the quality of services, including through competition.

The mayor also spoke about updating public transport in the regional center. Last year, Irkutsk approved an application for the purchase of 80 new high-capacity NEFAZs.

In 2023, a new generation trolleybus “Admiral” entered service, and two new tram bodies were purchased. Transport upgrades will continue.
