Innovative traffic lights will be launched at two intersections in Novosibirsk

The traffic control system will be improved on two dangerous sections of the left bank. The intersections of Nemirovich-Danchenko Street with Vatutina and Taimyrskaya are hot spots for traffic accidents. On Friday, April 26, from 15:00, innovative traffic lights will go into operation there – for now in test mode. The modernization is carried out according to the national project of the BKD, the press center of the mayor’s office reported.

Most accidents in these places occur due to unsynchronized activation of traffic controllers. When the light for the passing direction turns red, but the light for the oncoming direction remains green, or vice versa.

Now, in addition to the usual signals “When moving left or right, give way to a pedestrian,” the following images will appear in the information section field:

• “Oncoming red.” An arrow pointing down will warn the driver moving on green at what moment the prohibitory signal has turned on for the oncoming lane. When turning left, this will allow you to understand whether cars approaching the intersection from the other side will stop or continue driving.

• “Oncoming traffic” Two arrows pointing down will show that the red light has turned on in the same direction, while the green light remains on for oncoming vehicles. This situation is dangerous because the driver can also get hit when turning left or making a U-turn.

• “Caution, pedestrian at the crossing.” A square with a walking person will light up for three seconds when the traffic light turns yellow.

For pedestrians, a white arrow will be added to the green circle, informing about the intersection with traffic flow. It will indicate from which direction the car may appear.

Camera traps for traffic violators were installed in April on Lyshchinsky Square.
