In Saratov, a 20-year-old accomplice of scammers was detained, who took money from elderly people totaling 1.4 million rubles. The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported this today, April 24.
A resident of the Oktyabrsky district contacted the police regarding fraud. The woman said that on the morning of April 17, strangers called her and told her that her daughter ended up in the hospital after an accident. The interlocutors demanded about 800 thousand rubles for the treatment of a relative of a pensioner, but she only had 225 thousand rubles, which she gave to the girl in the evening of the same day.
Later, three more elderly Saratov women reported similar facts of deception. Thus, a 99-year-old resident of the Oktyabrsky district, after receiving a message from unknown people that her granddaughter had been in an accident and needed money to resolve the issue, transferred 570 thousand rubles through a courier. And 88-year-old residents of the Kirov and Leninsky districts, after talking on the phone with strangers, gave 500 thousand and 117 thousand rubles to the scammers’ accomplice.
Criminal investigation officers detained the suspect, a 20-year-old resident of the Oktyabrsky district. The girl admitted to four facts of fraud. She said that she found a job on the Internet, completed online registration, and a month later received assignments from “curators.” She transferred the money of older people to the accounts of “employers”, leaving herself 5% of each amount.
For all these facts, criminal cases of fraud have been initiated. A preventive measure was chosen against the suspect in the form of a ban on certain actions.
The police urge more frequent reminders to elderly relatives not to trust strangers and not to transfer money through couriers.
