The Southern District Military Court in Rostov issued a verdict against two military officers accused of attacking police officers in the Kherson region. The judicial act was posted on the court’s website.

In the dock were Corporal Maxim Vinokurov and Senior Warrant Officer Alexander Nechepurenko. They were initially convicted by the Sevastopol Garrison Military Court, and an appeal was considered in Rostov. The district military court did not overturn the verdict of its colleagues from Sevastopol. Both soldiers were sentenced to five years in a penal colony.

The crime for which the military was tried occurred in November 2022. Then, Nechepurenko and Vinokurov, at the intersection of the Novaya Kakhovka-Skadovsk-Tavriysk highway in the Kherson region, approached a Skoda Rapid car, in which there were police officers. The car had a blue flashing light installed. There was also a female police officer inside the car, who refused to hand over her service ID to the military. The military decided to “punish her for her insolence” and conducted a search. As a result, Makarov pistols, cartridges, two phones, service identification cards, as well as money were confiscated – 35 thousand rubles and 4 thousand hryvnia from the policewoman’s wallet.

But the military did not stop there. Maxim Vinokurov hit the woman and knocked her to the ground, threatening her with a pistol. Nechepurenko threatened the second policeman with a machine gun.

As a result, the military forced the police officers to go to Kakhovka on foot, urging them on with shots from a Makarov pistol. The accused drove away in the police Skoda.

The military’s lawyers noted that the victims did not have standard police identification cards and therefore could not be recognized as government officials. Also, according to lawyers, the use of violence against the victims by Nechepurenko was not proven. The latter, according to his lawyer, has six dependent children. However, in court these arguments were not taken into account and the verdict was upheld.
