Today it became known that the authorities have not abandoned the organization of priority travel on the main streets of the city: which areas will be affected by the transformation this year and will parking be removed from them?

In 2024, new dedicated lanes for public transport will be equipped in Chelyabinsk. Acting Chairman of the City Road Committee Dmitry Shilyaev at a press conference at the Chelyabinsk Region LRC, he announced that by the beginning of September they will appear on Sverdlovsky Avenue from Pobedy Avenue to Lenin Avenue, Vorovskogo Street from Timiryazev to Blyukher, Heroes of Tankograd from Lenin Avenue to Komarov and on Komarov from Heroes of Tankograd to Lermontov Lane and on Lenin Avenue from Vorovsky to Engels. The total length of the new “dedicated lines” will be 7.5 km.

We would like to remind you that at the beginning of this year, KDH announced a procurement for planning the reconstruction of traffic, taking into account the equipment of dedicated lanes on central streets, but the list of sites different from the current one. The tender was later cancelled.

Head of the Road Safety Department of KDH Andrey Shvetsov reported that during the design they tried to take into account the interests of motorists: the new lanes will have breaks at intersections with other streets, in some places additional turning sections will be equipped and the markings will be changed.

In addition, the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Transport and Road Facilities of the region Alexander Egorov reported that parking lots next to future “dedicated lanes” will not be removed: such events are planned at the final stage of reconstruction of the city transport network, when the total kilometer of dedicated lanes reaches 80 km (currently 29).

The Deputy Minister emphasized that this year the emphasis will be on monitoring compliance with traffic rules on dedicated lanes, but in fact there is no talk of fines for driving on them yet: for this it is necessary not only to equip the roads with cameras, but also to apply new markings in order to properly set up photo recording systems.
