26 thousand cubic meters of water have been pumped out from flooded areas of Nizhny Novgorod since the beginning of spring, the city department of the Civil Defense and Emergency Situations reported.

Mikhail Baranov, director of the city department of the Civil Defense and Emergency Situations Department, said that monitoring of flooded areas in the city districts is ongoing.

“Basically, applications for pumping water come from residents of villages and gardening communities in the Kanavinsky, Moskovsky and Avtozavodsky districts. By order of the mayor of the city, Yuri Shalabaev, we are carrying out work to minimize this damage, carrying out daily pumping of water, first of all, in the most flooded urban areas,” Mikhail Baranov emphasized.

In the village of Novoye Doskino in the Avtozavodsky district, several areas near houses were flooded; pumping is being carried out on several streets near houses by the administration of the Civil Defense and Emergency Situations and the district.

“The machines work regularly, everything depends on weather conditions, we work when there is no rain, we constantly pump out about 300 cubic meters a day throughout the village. The question is that groundwater is close here, and the winter was very snowy. There was no such flooding before,” said Vladimir Lebedev, head of the fire safety facility of the MKU “Management of Civil Emergency Situations of Nizhny Novgorod,” adding that some private properties do not have storm ditches that would improve the water drainage situation.
