As the press service of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate reported, the “Sober Driver” preventive measure is aimed at suppressing cases of drivers driving vehicles while intoxicated.
Since the beginning of 2024, 11 accidents involving “drunk” drivers have occurred in the Arkhangelsk region, with injuries; in addition, 80 drunk drivers have been involved in accidents resulting in property damage.
During the first quarter of 2024, while monitoring traffic, police officers detained 796 drivers who showed signs of intoxication, including those who refused to undergo a medical examination, of which 90 were drivers who repeatedly got behind the wheel of a vehicle while intoxicated.
Caring citizens with an active lifestyle provide significant assistance to police officers in ensuring road safety, including identifying drunk drivers.
The State Traffic Inspectorate reminds that for driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated, the legislation establishes not only administrative, but also criminal liability.
In the first case, for drunk driving, the driver may be deprived of his “rights” for a period of one and a half to two years, and he also faces a fine of 30 thousand rubles.
For repeated driving while intoxicated or repeated refusal to undergo examination, current legislation provides for criminal liability under Article 264.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. This crime carries a maximum penalty of imprisonment for up to three years.
If the accident occurs with death or serious bodily injury, the state of intoxication is an aggravating circumstance, and in accordance with Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the punishment will be more severe, up to 15 years in prison.
The State Traffic Inspectorate of the Arkhangelsk Region appeals to residents of the region.
