The Republic of Karelia entered the top ten regions in implementing the primary healthcare modernization program, said the head of the region, Artur Parfenchikov, during his annual report to the Legislative Assembly of Karelia.

“Over the past three years, 18 paramedic and obstetric stations and medical outpatient clinics have opened in new premises in the republic. Over the same three-year period, major repairs were carried out at 53 healthcare facilities. Since last year, we have been using our own helicopter to transport patients as part of emergency care in the republic,” said Artur Parfenchikov.

According to the program initiated by the president of the country, first aid stations were built in the village of Lahkolampi in the Suojärvi district and the village of Engozero in the Louhi district, medical outpatient clinics were built in the village of Chalna in the Pryazhinsky district and in the microdistrict of Petrozavodsk Solomenny. 913 units of modern medical equipment were purchased for new facilities.

“We are successfully implementing the program for the development of medical rehabilitation. We continue to work on all regional healthcare system projects. This year we plan to purchase 3,420 pieces of equipment for a total amount of 391 million rubles,” noted the head of the republic.

Over the past four years, 4 outpatient oncology care centers have been created in Karelia, which has increased the detection of oncology in the early stages to almost 60%. In addition, there are 5 vascular departments and one Regional Vascular Center in the region.

Thousands of residents of Karelia have gained access to high-tech medical care. Every year, from 6 to 8 thousand people receive this service in the republic and in federal clinics.
