As reported by the MKU “Management of Civil Emergency Situations of the City of Nizhny Novgorod”, about 26 thousand cubic meters of water have been pumped out from flooded areas of the municipality since the beginning of spring.
According to Mikhail Baranov, director of the city department of Civil Emergency Situations, specialists are constantly monitoring flooded areas in all districts of Nizhny Novgorod.
“Basically, applications for pumping water come from residents of villages and gardening communities in the Kanavinsky, Moskovsky and Avtozavodsky districts,” explained Mikhail Baranov.
The director of the Civil Emergency Situations Department added that, by order of the head of Nizhny Novgorod, Yuri Shalabaev, active work is also underway to minimize damage, especially in the most flooded areas of the municipality.
In particular, in the village of Novoye Doskino in the Avtozavodsky district, several areas near houses were flooded. Water pumping work is being carried out on several nearby streets by the Civil Defense and Emergency Situations department and the district administration.
As Vladimir Lebedev, head of the fire safety facility of the MKU “Management of Civil Emergency Situations of the City of Nizhny Novgorod”, noted, water pumping machines are constantly working in Novy Doskino. 300 cubic meters of water are regularly removed from there.
The situation is also complicated by the proximity of ground water and the lack of storm drains in a number of private households, which would improve the situation for water drainage.
Earlier it was reported that more than 10 thousand cubic meters of garbage were removed from Nizhny Novgorod following the results of a citywide cleanup.
