In the one hundred and first year of his life, Great Patriotic War veteran Alexei Apalkov passed away in Voronezh. The sad news was shared today, April 25, by the press service of the city administration.

The head of the regional center, Vadim Kstenin, brought his condolences to the man’s family and friends. The mayor called the veteran a significant figure for the city, as well as a selfless and brave man who always loved his homeland.

“A member of the famous Voronezh volunteer communist regiment, he defended Voronezh, despite being wounded, and went through the thick of Stalingrad and the Kursk Bulge,” noted Kstenin.

Alexey Fedorovich celebrated his centenary in February 2024.
