Military personnel and employees of the Directorate of the Russian Guard for the Chechen Republic, as well as its structural divisions, together with representatives of the Russian Military Historical Society in the region, as part of the “Memory Watch” event dedicated to the 79th anniversary of the Victory, carried out landscaping of the burial place of veterans of the Great Patriotic War. This was reported by the press service of the Office of the Russian National Guard for the Chechen Republic.

This action took place at the central Christian cemetery in Grozny. The National Guard cut down trees, dead wood and bushes, and also took out garbage and painted the fence and graves of the family of Afanasy Yakovlevich Kapanin, a participant in the Soviet-Finnish War, World War II and the Soviet-Japanese War, holder of the Order of the Red Star.

“The improvement of memorial sites and military graves reflects our attitude towards history, towards Heroes and veterans. Participation in such events is a duty for us. It is very important to remember the feat of our people and the price at which the Victory was achieved,” said Captain Ivan Makarov, an officer of the territorial administration of the Russian Guard.

At the end of the event, those gathered laid flowers at the monument and honored the memory of the victims with a minute of silence.
