Irkutsk region, NIA-Baikal – Issues of youth policy were discussed by deputies of the Legislative Assembly of the Irkutsk region with representatives of the Mongolia-Russia Friendship Society during a visit to Ulaanbaatar.

The working trip was attended by Chairman of the regional parliament Alexander Vedernikov, Vice-Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Natalya Dikusarova, Chairman of the Committee on Legislation on State Construction of the Region and Local Self-Government Vitaly Peretolchin and Chairman of the Committee on Property and Economic Policy Dmitry Ruzhnikov.

The Chairman of the Mongolia-Russia Friendship Society, Hero of Mongolia, Hero of the Soviet Union, cosmonaut Zhugderdemidiin Gurragcha told parliamentarians about the events organized by the Society, in which representatives of the two countries take part: “We call Irkutsk the gateway of friendship, because through this city lies the way to Russia for residents of Mongolia. We are actively developing cooperation with Irkutsk scientific organizations and holding sporting events. Among them is the spectacular hockey “Cup of Two Lakes”, which opens on Lake Baikal and ends on Khubsugul. This year, an ascent to Mount Munku-Sardyk took place, in which Russian and Mongolian climbers took part. We are carrying out joint search work at the site of the battles at Khalkhin Gol.”

According to Alexander Vedernikov, it is necessary to create and implement joint projects in the field of youth policy: “We need a significant turnaround based on patriotism and historically proven friendship between Russia and Mongolia, based on the events of our recent history. It is important that these factors become guidelines for the younger generation. We are interested in implementing projects in the fields of education and youth exchange, and in supporting Russian language schools in Mongolia. Today we are aimed at strengthening good neighborly relations.”

Also, the participants of the working trip laid flowers at the monument to Marshal of the Soviet Union, four times Hero of the Soviet Union Georgy Zhukov. In addition, parliamentarians visited the commander’s house-museum, which was opened in Ulaanbaatar in 1979. In the building where the museum is located, Georgy Zhukov lived with his family from September 1939 to May 1940. Nowadays, historical photographs, personal belongings, materials from Soviet, Mongolian and Japanese military archives and other exhibits are stored here. Alexander Vedernikov noted that this September events will take place in honor of the 85th anniversary of the victory at Khalkhin Gol, where more than ten thousand soldiers and commanders of the Red Army gave their lives defending Mongolia.
