2024 has been declared the Year of the Family in Russia. On this occasion, I would like to pay as much attention as possible not just to families, but to entire labor dynasties of Kaluga residents. Thus, the total teaching experience of the Belyaev-Ptakhov-Maysurov family exceeds 1000 years. Teachers of this kind from our region scattered throughout the country and neighboring countries, but one of the branches remained. They continue to work for the benefit of the education of children in the Kaluga region.

A large living room and a hospitable reception in the Maymusov family’s house are already a tradition. There are a lot of guests here, and everyone should feel comfortable, the owners explain. The family of former teachers of the Duminichsky orphanage is often visited by matured pupils. Tatyana and Vladimir consider yesterday’s students to be full-fledged members of the family and vying with each other to talk about their children.

“We tried to help everyone,” says Tatyana Maymusova. “For example, I was a psychologist in an orphanage. And the main task that I set for myself was to ease their educational hardships as much as possible.”

Vladimir Vladislavovich also did not limit himself to history lessons. It was a difficult time, the turbulent 90s: legislation on the protection of children was not formed, street children were encountered on the streets, and orphanages often went on the run. The Maimusovs and their little son fascinated the pupils with tourist trips, and they were not limited to the territory of their native land. They traveled almost all of Russia, went to Crimea, sailed through Karelia. And all this was part of the educational process.

The best help for children is to give them a path to adulthood or help them find a good family, the Maymusovs believe. For this reason, they began to liquidate the orphanage entrusted to them before the advent of a new reform in our country. Together with the students, we took part in various competitions and invited townspeople to their holidays. People met children, communicated, began to be friends, and some were able to love them like family.

The married couple brought their plan to the end – the Duminichsky orphanage ceased to exist as unnecessary. Stubbornness in the family is passed down through the Belyaev family, says Vladimir. Being the son of a priest, his ancestor married an ordinary peasant woman, for which he was expelled from his father’s house.

“Grandfather, despite all these instructions and threats, chooses his love – grandmother, Anastasia Egorovna, who spent many years with him,” says Vladimir Maymusov.

First, my great-grandfather had to take part in the First World War, and after the revolution he began teaching, Vladimir continues. This marriage produced six children who followed in their father’s footsteps and chose the profession of teacher, followed by grandchildren and great-grandchildren…

The blood of the second dynasty – the Ptakhovs, hereditary teachers on the maternal side – also united in the veins of Vladimir. Their eldest son Peter found a calling in teaching. Although as a teenager he planned to try his hand at medicine. But fate decreed otherwise.

“I tried to enroll in different educational institutions,” says Pyotr Maymusov. “But from the institutions to which I applied, I got into all the pedagogical universities that existed. I applied to the Lenin Pedagogical University in Moscow. I got into it. I entered Kaluga State University in the same way. But the direction of medicine never worked out for me.”

But Peter is good at instilling a love of biology, his students say. The parents are proud of their son and believe that each new generation of teachers in their family is better than the previous one.
