Kursk 04/25/2024. ABIREG.RU – Political scientist Vladimir Slatinov spoke about the “standby mode” of Kursk Governor Roman Starovoit. In his Telegram channel, the expert discussed the prospects of the Kursk leader on the eve of the September elections in the region.

As Slatinov believes, Starovoit is in “waiting mode”: his term of office ends in the fall, like many of his colleagues in the gubernatorial “new wave.” At the same time, in the conditions of the Northern Military District, the regional government under the leadership of Starovoit “manages to quite successfully” coordinate work with the security forces and various services – from the point of view of overcoming the “consequences of military influence” on populated areas.

“The obvious gubernatorial dominance in the regional elites is undeniable, but it is implemented carefully and in a calm style. In more than 5 years since Starovoit’s appointment as acting head of the region, a generational renewal of the highest regional elite has occurred. The opposition to the head of the territory is quite constructive – there is no harsh confrontation, but cautious criticism from opponents is regularly addressed to the executive power of the region,” writes Slatinov.

At the same time, the political scientist notes that one of Starovoit’s significant problems is “overheated expectations from a change of power at one time.” “There is a movement towards a more balanced assessment by the population of the situation and the activities of the regional authorities, but a considerable part of Kursk residents experience emotional disappointment,” the expert sums up.
