In Voronezh, Great Patriotic War (WWII) veteran Alexey Apalkov died at the age of 101, the press service of the city administration reported on Thursday, April 25.

He participated in the defense of the capital of the Black Earth Region in 1942-43 of the last century as part of the Voronezh volunteer communist regiment. In addition, he fought for Stalingrad and passed the Kursk Bulge. In February of this year, the veteran celebrated his centenary

– Not only his military awards speak volumes about how selfless, brave and loving the Motherland Alexey Fedorovich was: the Order of the Patriotic War, 1st degree, two medals “For Courage”, medals “For the Capture of Budapest”, “For the Capture of Vienna”, “For victory over Germany,” but also long peaceful work,” noted the mayor of Voronezh.
