Experts complain about the poor quality of the material

In Kaliningrad this week they began cleaning up artificial road humps (ARH).
“At the moment we are planning to abandon rubberized roadways in favor of asphalt ones,” explained the situation with the specialists of the MKU “City Road Construction and Repair”. – The reason for such a large replacement was the unprofitability of the irregularities. Where there is heavy vehicle traffic, collapsible rubber structures cannot withstand the loads, and therefore they have to be replaced every two years. Uneven asphalt concrete can be used for at least five years.
The road department reported that work to remove uneven roads in Kaliningrad has already begun.
The first in line for replacement are IDNs near schools and kindergartens. The replacement of rubber bumps with asphalt concrete has already begun on Georgiy Dimitrov Street, near kindergarten No. 119.
Also, concrete tactile tiles on the sidewalks in the regional center will soon be replaced with polymer ones.
“The capricious Kaliningrad winter with frequent crossings of the 0 degree mark is one of the factors that leads to the active destruction of city sidewalk coatings,” explained the press service of the Kaliningrad administration. – This is also influenced by the mechanized cleaning of pedestrian paths with reagents, the volume of which in the city increases every year. Unfortunately, there are also frequent cases of unauthorized entry of other vehicles belonging to various enterprises and citizens. Therefore, the city administration decided to replace the destroyed concrete tactile tiles with polymer analogues. They are more expensive, but will last a long time.
The only exceptions will be objects that have been renovated in the last 5 years. The fact is that they are under warranty and in this case the contractor is obliged to replace the destroyed materials with similar ones.
“In April, monitoring of all streets that have been reconstructed or overhauled since 2019 will be completed in Kaliningrad; based on the results of this work, we will draw up “defect sheets” that we will distribute to contractors for subsequent elimination of comments,” the mayor’s office reported.
