A former high-ranking police officer from Voronezh has been in pre-trial detention for a year

The term of detention of the former head of the migration department of the regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Sergei Chervontsev, was extended by the Leninsky District Court of Voronezh.

As reported in court, the ex-policeman accused of taking a bribe will spend another two months – until June 27 inclusive – in a pre-trial detention center.

At the court hearing, the accused and his defense attorney objected to the extension of the arrest and asked the court to choose a more lenient measure of restraint in the form of house arrest or bail.

Sergei Chervontsev was detained at the beginning of last summer.

The court was also told that, according to the prosecution, being the head of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Voronezh Region, Sergei Chervontsev, for money, issued permits to foreign citizens for temporary stay in the Russian Federation. At the same time, there were no legal grounds for issuing documents.
