Elvira Druzhinina, a researcher at the State Historical Museum of the Southern Urals, reached the finals of the All-Russian professional skills competition “People in the museum. Present and future

Out of more than 200 applications from museum workers from 58 regions of our country, the organizing committee selected only 20 finalists, including Elvira Druzhinina with her ethnoproject “Ural View”, implemented jointly with colleagues and ethnographers from Chelyabinsk in 2022-23. In addition, Yulia Vasina, head of the SUSU educational museum and exhibition complex “Peoples and Technologies of the Urals,” also qualified for the final from Chelyabinsk.

Video series Elvira Druzhinina “Ural view“about the Russian traditional costume of the Southern Urals of the 19th and early 20th centuries demonstrates authentic costumes from museum collections in the Chelyabinsk region and replicas of these outfits on models.

To get to the finals of the large-scale metropolitan competition “People in the Museum. Present and Future,” participants had to attend online trainings, improve their public speaking skills, write an essay on the topic “The Ideal Museum of the Future,” and publicly present their project.

“It was exciting and very interesting—colleagues from all over the country told us about their projects,” shared Elvira Druzhinina. — When I saw the information about the competition, I decided that I needed to carefully study the regulations and send an application. But, as often happens, I got confused and remembered only on the last day. I had to put everything aside, diligently complete the test tasks and urgently write a motivation letter.

At the competition I represented our museum ethno-project “Ural view“, which I have already spoken about several times at various conferences. But here the time frame for the speech turned out to be so strict that it took a long time to check the presentation and rehearse the speech several times so that everyone could understand it and at the same time easily understand it.

I was pleased with the result – I was one of the lucky 20 who will take part in the finals. His program promises to be intense. I hope that this will help me improve the useful skills that museum workers need,” summed up Elvira Druzhinina.

Final of the competition “People in the museum. Present and future“will be held from May 15 to 18, 2024 in St. Petersburg on the basis of the Russian Ethnographic Museum, where the most talented and motivated professionals in their field will gather, ready to develop the domestic museum business. The winners of the project will have the chance to create an exhibition-reflection on the museum profession, which will open at the REM in November this year.

Let us add that the organizer of the project is the ANO Center for Promotion of Professional Development of Museum Specialists “Ideas for Museums” with the support of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives.
