More than 7.5 thousand square meters of plastic markings have already been applied to roads in Nizhny Novgorod

Nizhny Novgorod. 25th of April. NTA-Volga region – More than 7.5 thousand square meters of plastic markings have already been applied to the roads of Nizhny Novgorod. This was reported to the MBU “Specialized Installation and Operational Management” (“SMEU”).

According to the MBU SMEU, the volume of plastic road markings is increasing annually – this season its share will be up to 84%. Thermoplastic has unique wear-resistant properties and is resistant to temperature changes and meteorological influences.

“This season, road markings will be applied on 353 streets with a total volume of 202 thousand square meters: 92.4 thousand square meters with thermoplastic, 47.2 thousand square meters with paint and 62.4 square meters under warranty with plastic. The work will take place in several stages. First, the markings will be applied on the main highways, then at social facilities and secondary roads,” said Nikolai Mamonov, director of the MBU SMEU.

As soon as weather conditions permitted, crews began executing contracts, the contractor said.

“We have almost finished applying thermoplastic on the streets of Minin, Varvarskaya, Bolshaya Pokrovskaya, Akademika Sakharov, Nizhne-Volzhskaya embankment, Blagoveshchenskaya Square, Pokhvalinsky Congress. We mainly work at night so as not to paralyze traffic during the day,” said Sergei Bogatyrev, deputy general director of the contractor company.

The department emphasized that city road markings experience the same loads as the road surface itself, which is why the city carries out work to update it every year.

“The Nizhny Novgorod Road Safety Commission considered the issue of using thermoplastic markings at pedestrian crossings near social facilities. The mayor of the city, Yuri Shalabaev, supported this initiative. Therefore, this year plastic markings will appear on almost all pedestrian crossings near kindergartens and schools,” noted Nikolai Mamonov.

Let us recall that earlier, when presenting a report on the activities of the mayor’s office to deputies of the Nizhny Novgorod City Duma, the head of the city, Yuri Shalabaev, touched upon the topic of ensuring traffic safety on highways.

“We solve the problem of optimal and safe organization of traffic and pedestrian traffic in a comprehensive manner. The road situation is analyzed, the arrangement of individual sections is carried out, including local widening of the roadway. We have been implementing an intelligent transport system for four years now. Work continues to improve the quality of road markings. At the end of 2023, the share of markings applied with plastic materials that are more resistant to external influences was already 80%,” said Yuri Shalabaev.
