Veteran of the Great Patriotic War Alexander Untilov, who lived and worked in Kaluga for many years, today, April 25, could have turned 105 years old. In honor of this date, a memorial meeting was held in the regional capital with flowers laid at the memorial plaque.

Representatives of the city administration, veterans’ organizations and schoolchildren gathered near the People’s House building. Here is the headquarters of the Council of War and Labor Veterans, which was headed by Alexander Yakovlevich. Here, a year after the veteran passed away, a memorial plaque was installed.

Alexander Untilov went through the entire war. He took part in the battles on Kaluga land, in the Battle of Kursk, and then liberated Ukraine, Belarus, the Baltic states and took part in the war with Japan. In Kaluga, he headed a veterans’ organization and even in old age carried out patriotic work with young people, and also took part in city holidays. Alexander Untilov was awarded the title of honorary citizen of the city.

“I had the opportunity to work with Alexander Yakovlevich, he was a wonderful person, a bright representative of the generation of winners, wise, kind, tactful, intelligent, with an exceptional sense of humor. He had unquestionable authority among veterans. Young Kaluga residents should know about him, we all must forever cherish memory of our great fellow countryman,” said the head of the Kaluga city government, Yuri Moiseev.
