A newborn girl died in one of the apartments in the Primorsky district of St. Petersburg the night before. The tragedy occurred after the father fed the child formula. The man tried to resuscitate the baby himself, but his attempts were unsuccessful. Fontanka became aware of this on April 25.
A St. Petersburg resident who works as a photographer called an ambulance at five o’clock in the evening. He said that his wife gave birth to a healthy daughter a month ago, but the mother was taken to the Mariinsky Hospital with postpartum complications. So the man was left alone with the baby and eldest son.
On Wednesday evening, he was feeding his newborn daughter formula as usual. The child was held in a “column” position, as expected. After that, he put the girl in the stroller and went to his son for 20 minutes. When he returned, he saw that the baby was lying with her head turned to the side. Having looked closely, the man saw blood on her face. He immediately called an ambulance and the child’s mother. Over the phone they explained to him how to perform artificial respiration. The Petersburger followed all the instructions, but his actions did not lead to a positive result. Arriving doctors confirmed the death of the newborn.
Law enforcement agencies are conducting an investigation. Previously, the man was convicted of fraud, traffic violations resulting in grievous bodily harm, and for failure to pay alimony.
