As Sledkom reported on Thursday, April 25, it was established that an organized criminal community operated in St. Petersburg, whose members carried out illegal banking activities and illegal circulation of payment funds. During 2020–2023, legal entities controlled by the criminal community received at least seven billion rubles for the purpose of subsequent cashing out.

On April 25, police and FSB officers conducted more than 40 searches. According to Fontanka, they took place in St. Petersburg, as well as in the Leningrad, Moscow and, presumably, Kostroma regions. In addition, more than 150 current accounts of individuals and legal entities were seized.

A criminal case has been opened regarding the organization of a criminal community and participation in it (parts 1, 2 of Article 210 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Also, a number of criminal cases initiated on the facts of illegal banking activities, cash withdrawal and illegal circulation of means of payment have been combined into one proceeding.

Investigators are establishing all the circumstances, and the issue of detaining members of the criminal community as suspects is being decided.
