But the flame does not go out for a minute.

On the eve of May 9, the flame was moved from the Eternal Flame memorial and the star was removed. Correspondents from Vecherniy Chelyabinsk witnessed how annual preventative work is carried out.

Gas service vehicles stop not far from Glory Boulevard. Several teams go to work. A gas cylinder with a connected torch is brought to the memorial.

“The eternal flame is a symbol of the Victory of our ancestors in the Great Patriotic War, it should not go out,” explains Salavat Ziyaddinov, master of the emergency dispatch service of Chelyabinskgorgaz JSC. “We bring a temporary burner here and transfer the fire to it. At this time, a special team is inspecting the main burner.”

While workers check the memorial, the flames do not go out. It will not even leave the memorial: the torch is set on fire from the Eternal Flame and carefully placed on the edging of the wreath.
