The title of Hero of Russia was awarded to Volgograd resident Alexander Matlakhov

In the Hall of Military and Labor Glory, Andrei Bocharov handed over the Gold Star to the wife of Volga resident Alexander Matlakhov, whose name is inscribed in golden letters in the history of Russia and the Volgograd region. The event was also attended by the hero’s relatives, friends and colleagues.

The title of Hero of Russia was posthumously awarded to a local resident by decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Guard capital showed courage and heroism during a special military operation.

An officer of the Russian Airborne Forces took part in the SVO from the first days. He fought with enemies as part of the 76th Guards Air Assault Division. Captain Alexander Matlakhov entrusted important and responsible tasks to the command. His actions are respectable – he acted competently and courageously, showing courage and dedication.

Volzhanin participated in the liberation of the LPR and DPR since February 22. The brave warrior was awarded two Orders of Courage and the Zhukov Medal.

— Dear Daria Dmitrievna, Olga Viktorovna and Rodion Nikolaevich, your husband and son were a real officer. A real person. A real hero. And he died, having fulfilled his military duty to the end. Today it is a great honor for us, on behalf of the President of Russia, to hand over to your family the Golden Star of the Hero of the Russian Federation,” said the head of the region.

The widow of the deceased hero also made a speech.

“Sasha’s parents raised a real man, an officer for whom honor, conscience, and dignity were not just words throughout his entire service. I know that he could not have done otherwise. No matter how painful and difficult it is, I am proud of my husband and all the guys who protect our future and the future of our children.
